Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Police say they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then located multiple other marked cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report initial examinations show the substance was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; officials are not yet aware of any physical harm in association with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the public for details.
An important representative stated the vandalism made him stunned and had to be resolved quickly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on social media, recalling the death of nine victims by a shooter targeting people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
