Fall Classic Final Game Captures 51M Viewers Across the United States, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The exciting 11-inning clash that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Blue Jays by one run drew a total over 50 million watchers in the United States, Canada, and Japan markets. Major League Baseball stated this marks the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 edition showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

The Saturday epic contest secured 27.33M audience members on Fox channels, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic game after the 2017 final game between the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase over the previous Game 7 between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed 4th, Game 4 ranked seventh, Game 5 was 8th, and the third game finished in thirteenth position.

Global Audience Numbers

In Canada, the climactic game averaged 11.6M viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English-language program in the country since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. local time, it attracted 12 million. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – drew over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The entire seven-match series recorded 15.71 million viewers on Fox, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This represents the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has recorded viewership growth for two consecutive years.

Including the opening game telecast on Univision, the total American viewership reached over 16 million. The overall Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels drew 8.09M viewers, an eight percent increase compared to the previous year and Fox’s best playoff ratings after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball announced that the Fall Classic was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by forty-four media partners in 16 various languages.
